Welcome to My Vegan Adventures
Hi! I am Katherine from Birmingham, Al or as most folk from here refer to it as B'ham. Welcome to my blog, my personal musings of becoming a vegan eater. So many people are thinking about becoming a vegan eater but may not fully understand the how or why behind doing so... so I hope that through this blog I will provide you with helpful information that will not only give you the basics of Veganism, but will provide great tips, recipes and even restaurants around the B'ham area that offer vegan options.
So here we go!
Are you curious about what a vegan is? Well here's Webster's definition of what a vegan is : a strict vegetarian who consumes no food (such as meat, eggs, or dairy products) that comes from animals; also : one who abstains from using animal products (such as leather)
To simplify it, if its not clear a vegan won't eat or wear anything that has come from an animal, even an insect, like honey or silk... Seems extreme to some, but I guarantee you if you watch the documentary "What the Health" on Netflix you'll decide to give up meat and meat products. TRUST ME, you will!
So here is a little more about myself: 29 year old, B'ham native, raised on your typical southern home cooked food,(loved anything fried that I could eat with hot sauce 😄😄, except chitterlings but thats a whole different blog) watched "What the Health" August 18th after a night out with my Hubby, 1st day on the vegan adventure Saturday August 19th. This is my 5th day eating a vegan diet, although it has involved a little more forethought for our meals it hasn't been unbearable or impossible to eat.
I know a lot of people who feel eating this way may be a fad or "bandwagon" eating trend, but from December 2016 until now I have eaten like a vegetarian through the week and would "reward" myself with meat on the weekends- but only fish or chicken...All of that changed after looking at several documentaries on food and our overall health, the link between food and illnesses that most probably felt were caused by genetics. I thought it would be hard to give up the chicken, cheese or "fresh" fish but after seeing what it does to my body, not to mention what the animals go through it was enough for me to make a complete change! I hope to entertain and inspire others for the better!
