Oh My Lunch!

Image
Guys and Gals! Today's lunch was super yummy! I decided to give Golden Temple a try. My taste buds were pleasantly surprised, happily delighted, over joyed!!! I think you get the point. So this was our first visit to the cafe part of Golden Temple, we have visited the health food and supplement part of the store, but never the Cafe. I'm glad we decided to give this interesting eatery a try. Now at first glance, you have a mixture of individuals who are unique in personal style, to put it mildly- but these folks know good food, to say the least. I think I found my go to spot for good lunch choices. The vegan options are unbelievable! So the atmosphere left a little to be longed for, but you know I wasn't there for the ambiance, this time. I simply wanted a meal that I didn't have to worry about if the chef understood my request for vegan options- that's exactly what I found in this gem that has been a staple in the B'ham area for 41 years. I was just too blind to...

All Aboard: The Pita Stop!

Mediterranean Cuisine at it's Finest The evening started out as it usually does, Googling vegan friendly options nearby, the only difference this time was, the Hubby was the one searching. Which turned out great! His search led us to the Southside of B'ham, right across the street from Highland's Emergency room entrance. Many of you who know me personally, know I am familiar with the location for unfortunate circumstances; however I have passed this secret gem many times without giving it a second thought. Happily the adventure to this location was a pleasant one this time. Our visit started with me taking a photo of the restaurant’s sign, as normal...right?! Well, I didn't know that the staff was paying any attention to me outside! (I guess that’s why Momma always told you to be on your best behavior, cause there is always someone watching) As we entered the neatly decorated building, we were greeted by a jovial gentleman who jokingly told me he was ready for h...

Oh no Surin!

Surin West Birmingham ⛔ Not So Vegan Friendly  So I decided since I have been trying to clean my house before September 1st I deserved a nice lunch out, by myself since the Hubby was at work and my Best Gal Pal was too. So I looked online for vegan options for lunch- I already had in mind that I wanted Surin West located in the Five Points Square on the Southside of B’ham. Ok my favorite thing about this place isn't the freshly remodeled décor, or the cool background music that plays while you enjoy your meal or the fact that this is a nice locale for business meetings and the like… my absolute favorite thing about this place WAS the coconut soup… Yep you see the huge WAS. That’s because I found out that this is not a vegan friendly option it contains chicken broth and fish oil, this sucks so bad!😢😲Well my waitress gave me the option for onion soup, today will be the first time trying it from here. Lets hope it goes well. So that was the first huge letdown to this meal. Next...

First Vegan Meal at Home!

One Pot Curry Pasta Alright I'm in love! This dish was so simple, inexpensive in my opinion (I'll post the receipt) quick to put together, like from start to finish 25 minutes tops and when I say one pot I mean it! Anyone who knows me, I mean really knows me, will know I love to cook a dish or two- but hate, no utterly  despise the clean up part. If I could have someone come in to clean up after each cooking session, I would cook every single day! Well you kniw when it's necessary . Ok, ok let me get back on task. Speaking of necessary cooking, with this dish we can eat off this meal for at least 3 meals. Now if you know my Hubby, knows he will eat leftovers til there are none left over, but I'm a different story twice is my limit! But honestly with this dish, I could see myself eating it til it's gone! Yes, “Ms.Picky I'm tired of that, let's go out to get something else”, said it- I'll eat it til it's gone. So I know you probably want to k...

A Nite Out

MELT BIRMINGHAM: Rustic, modern family friendly atmosphere Summer Tomato (Before) So my husband and I were on day 4 of our vegan adventure! Tuesday evening I looked up a vegan friendly restaurant in the local Avondale area- Melt Birmingham. This cool artistic restaurant is located in the quiet part of Avondale the corner 41st street South and 4th Ave to be exact. So I was impressed- we walked in at 7:40, although was pretty busy, we were seated within 3 minutes of our arrival. The customer service was great from what I could tell- greeted with a smile, seated and greeted by our waiter, Jake and given a nice rundown of the menu. Speaking of food, (cause that’s why we're here right) the vegan options are plentiful… if you call having 3 main dishes outside your normal salads plentiful…they have plenty to choose from. So, we decided on the Summer Tomato- from the description it sounded great: heirloom tomatoes, mozzarella ( sub for vegan cheese, this option cost an add...

Welcome to My Vegan Adventures

Hi! I am Katherine from Birmingham, Al or as most folk from here refer to it as B'ham. Welcome to my blog, my personal musings of becoming a vegan eater. So many people are thinking about becoming a vegan eater but may not fully understand the how or why behind doing so... so I hope that through this blog I will provide you with helpful information that will not only give you the basics of Veganism, but will provide great tips, recipes and even restaurants around the B'ham area that offer vegan options. So here we go! Are you curious about what a vegan is? Well here's Webster's definition of what a vegan is  :  a strict   vegetarian   who consumes no food (such as meat, eggs, or dairy products) that comes from animals;   also   :   one who abstains from using animal products (such as leather) To simplify it, if its not clear a vegan won't eat or wear anything that has come from an animal, even an insect, like honey or silk... Seems extreme to so...
